thanksgiving thankfulness…

Gosh, today is the thanksgiving feast at work and I’m super super happy because I’m going to Tahiti next week and so our family is kind of skipping Thanksgiving this year. So today I will get my share of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy at the office party. Since I’m flying to Tahiti tomorrow I decided not to stress myself out before I leave by baking anything. so unfortunately I BOUGHT a pie for the thanksgiving feast at work. oh the horror. lol.. jk.. store bought goodies are good too.. but I just find baking my own to be more special, fun and yummier. In fact I’ve already given Gojira warning well in advance that next year when he comes it’s okay if he doesn’t want to eat my baked goodies but he is required to take them into his workplace for his colleagues to enjoy :) heheh..

It seems with Thankgiving around the corner Christmas is fast approaching. I mean on my way into work I can already see the signs for tree farms where you can go and cut down your own Christmas tree. Seeing those signs make me smile because next year I will get to go to one of them with Gojira to cut down our very first Christmas tree together. I can’t wait to do all those Christmasy things.

But let me get back to my point of this post. With Thanksgiving practically here this holiday also makes me think of the future and how it will be when I one day have little Gojiras and little me’s running around to celebrate this special time of year.

There are no other holidays like Thankgiving and Christmas to give such a warm cozy fuzzy feeling inside. I couldn’t help but sigh with delight as I found these cute things I could one day incorporate in my thanksgiving celebrations. I could so picture doing these little crafts and baking projects with my kids and decorating the thanksgiving table with cute stuff like this.

(the gold pumpkins are actually more halloween but I couldn’t resist sharing the creativity!!)

Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks for the blessings we each have in our lives. So here is a list of what I’m thankful for this year….

  • I’m thankful for Gojira who is in my life and wants to make a life with me.
  • I am thankful that he is my best friend and helps me become a better person and makes my life so fulfilling.
  • I’m thankful I finally came back to the US and I’ve got a plan for my life and my future.
  • I’m thankful for Gojira’s family who have all been so kind and sweet to me.
  • I’m thankful for my family who has been supportive and helped me adjust back into the groove of things after I moved back to the US.
  • I’m thankful that I only have a month more left to wait for the results of the petition filed for Gojira’s visa.
  • I’m thankful I have a job in my field of SEO and lets me save up for the future I envision for myself and the life I will have with Gojira.
  • I’m thankful I have been able to overcome most of the difficulties and problems of my past and be able to move on and find my happiness.
    And last but not least…
  • I am thankful for God and Our Lady of Perpetual Help who has watched over me and guided me through my darkest hours.

I will post again when I’m back from Tahiti on the 27th… till then miss me :) This light is turned off…

How do you get into the holiday spirit without spending money?

You can bake christmas cookies.. yummm… gingerbread cookies, sugar cookies in christmas shapes, cinnamon sugar cookies, you can also try a gingerbread house if you really enjoy being in the kitchen..

make ornaments at home with a little glue, card board, ribbon, construction paper paint, glitter and colored pencils… It’s fun to find little odds and ends around the house and turn them into something special to hang on the christmas tree.

read christmas stories… it’s more fun if you have younger brothers and sisters, or even nieces and nephews to read to… theyre always looking for someone to read to them even if they do know how to read. It’s fun animating a story and telling it out loud.. Makes it exciting and adventurous… and gets anyone around into the christmas spirit…

you can go to a soup kitchen and feed the hungry.. The needy really enjoy the attention and the organizations really need the help so you’re serving both purposes.. There are also charities you can get involved with that help underprivileged kids get some toys that they wished for on Christmas day. The joy of giving will always get you in the holiday spirit.

Put a log in the fireplace and heat up some apple cider… the warm rich cinnamony taste of cider in your belly will hit the spot!

curl up in front of the tv with your family and watch some nice christmas movies
My personal favorites include: How The Grinch The Stole Christmas, Elf, Santa Buddies, Curious George A Very Monkey Christmas, It’s A Very Muppet Christmas Movie, The Nutcracker (It’s a ballet that they show on tv quite a lot, I don’t feel like it’s Christmas without hearing the tune of Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairies at least once!)http://ak.buy.com/db_assets/large_images/324/205542324.jpg

Go outside and build a snow man or a snow fort… go sledding…  make some snow angels… playing in the snow gives you the hunger to come back and have some christmas cookies and some hot cocoa..

What are Your 5 Favorite Days in the Year?

October 31st- Halloween, because you get to dress up in a costume, eat lots of candy and be creative about what to dress up as,

The 4th Thursday in November of every year- Thanksgiving, I just love the warmth and family togetherness on this day… and the chance to meet cousins who I otherwise don’t get to see year round.

December 20th- MY birthday- the one day in the year where I can get pampered by all those that love me at the same time without feeling guilty!

December 25th- Christmasssss!!!! (I would like to say Diwali as well but the day changes every year according to the Hindu calendar so I can’t…)

December 31st- New Year’s Eve, to partaaaayyyyy and reflect on the year we finished and SURVIVED!!

What are your 5 favorite days in the year and why? They don’t have to necessarily be holidays or festivals it can be any day in the year that is special or important for you…

Is it overly politically correct to avoid using the phrase “Merry Christmas” during the holidays?

I think it’s the perfect thing to say to anyone during the holidays. It means I hope you have a nice holiday. It doesnt mean its “Christiany” so to speak. To some who believe in Christianity Im sure it does mean it in the religious sense. But, Christmas is the magic of a white winter wonderland. It wouldnt be the same if we didnt have christmas. Christmas has been embraced by all cultures. Not for the religion, but the magic of giving to your loved ones and charity and the snow and the carefree wonderful feeling you get during the winter holidays. So I think it’s completely all right to say “Merry Christmas” to anyone you bump in to whether theyre Christian or not. Im not a Christian and I wish people Merry Christmas too!
